Vehicle Donation Program

Vehicle Donation Program

There is an exciting new way to both help you at tax time and support WPFW, your community radio station.

Donate your used car, truck, motorcycle, boat, or recreational vehicle to WPFW and receive an income tax deduction! It’s easy to donate your used vehicle, just click here or call 1-866-WPFW-CAR (1-866-973-9227).

Why Donate?

1. You don't want to spend the time to sell your vehicle.

2. It is too expensive to repair your vehicle.

3. You don't trust your car to be safe on the road.

4. You need a tax write-off.

But the most important reason is that your donation will help WPFW!

1. What kinds of vehicles can I donate?

We take cars, boats (on a trailer), motor homes, trucks, motorcycles (must be operational), farm equipment and recreational vehicles such as snowmobiles, jet skis, etc. Call our representative at 1-866-WPFW-CAR (1-866-973-9227) to find out if your vehicle qualifies.

2. Does my car have to be operational?

Not always. But it must have an engine and be towable. Rules vary from state to state and it depends upon the year, make, and model of the vehicle. In some instances, if the cost to transport a vehicle is more than what it will bring at auction, it may be declined. Call our representative at 1-866-WPFW-CAR (1-866-973-9227) to find out if your vehicle qualifies.

3. Does my car have to be registered?

No, but you must be the legal titleholder.

If you have lost the title, you must obtain the title prior to donating it. Contact your local DMV to obtain a duplicate title. Our drive will instruct you of the proper place to sign the title. You may have to sign a power of attorney authorizing us to transfer it. Our driver will let you know what is required or you can call our representative at 1-866-WPFW-CAR (1-866-973-9227) for more information.

4. How soon can my vehicle be picked up?

Vehicles are picked up at a convenient time for you. Our representative will take all pertinent information regarding your donation, and forward it to our tow company. They will call you within 24 hours to set up an appointment. If you have not been called within 24 hours, please call 1-866-WPFW-CAR or (1-866-973-9227).

5. What kind of paperwork will I receive?

You will receive a tow receipt when the vehicle is picked up. Thirty days after the vehicle is sold, you will receive an acknowledgment. If your vehicle sells for over $500 you will receive IRS Form 1098 B and C.

6. How much of a tax donation can I take?

The amount that is tax deductible is the sale price of the vehicle. For more information on tax write-offs, we suggest you review IRS Publication 526 which sets forth the manner in which the IRS requires you to determine the value of your donated property.

7. What will happen to my vehicle?

Your vehicle will be picked up and sold at a public auction. The driver will need:

-- The car keys

-- The title to your car

-- Your signature authorizing the towing of the vehicle

A tow receipt will be given to you by the driver verifying that your vehicle was received on behalf of WPFW. Cars are usually sold within 30 days of pick up. Some vehicles may take longer. There is no tow fee. However, if you are out of our towing range, you may drop the vehicle off at our auction house at your convenience.

8. Are all cars sold at auction?

No. Occasionally, cars that are donated do not sell at auction. In those cases, the vehicles are sold for scrap metal.

9. Will I be notified when it sells?

Yes. If the vehicle sells for over $500 you will receive IRS Form 1098 B and C. If not, you will simply receive an acknowledgment as required by the IRS.
