WPFW News

Message from John Hughes, WPFW General Manager

The year ahead will be one of change for WPFW ... a year of transformation. We are facing two stark realities: we must move from the building that has housed us for the past 15 years; and most, if not all, of our equipment must be replaced.

As is often the case, these great challenges bring with them exciting possibilities. After all, a new studio featuring up-to-date production equipment will greatly strengthen our ability to provide cutting edge locally-produced programming and to connect in new and imaginative ways with the Washington, D.C. community.

But the expenses for all this will be formidable and federal funds that were once available to assist community radio stations with infrastructure costs associated with such a move have been stripped away. In these trying times, many worthy organizations are competing for scarce resources from donors.

In the coming days and months, you will be hearing voices on the WPFW airwaves of our staff, programmers, volunteers, and other thoughtful and generous supporters sharing information about our new Campaign for Growth. You will be hearing how you -- our loyal members and listeners -- can play a vital role in securing the future for your community broadcasting station.

Our Campaign for Growth is ultimately about connecting people with ideas, connecting WPFW with its past and its future. The future is now for WPFW ... for your station ... the station that reflects the heritage and diversity of your community... the station that enriches your mind, nourishes your spirit, expands your perspective and strengthens your community.

Please take a moment now to pledge your support. Contribute now to help build a solid foundation for our Campaign for Growth
